Grey Squirrel Resort

Due to recent snow, we went there as a quick 2 day getaway. The location and amenities were perfect. The snow had its effects but i can imagine the resort being beautiful during the summer as well. I specifically want to give a shut out to Nick at front desk. We had a little problem when we checked in but he immediately jumped on it. I've stayed at other Big Bear cabins but never had the prompt response to requests.

The good: lovely staging for the hot sub suite, complete with a welcome card and complimentary wine, friendly desk clerk. The bad: bugs (ants all over the kitchenette), overflowing ash tray on porch, no fitted sheet on (uncomfortable) bed, broken toilet paper holder and shower soap dispenser, NO functioning A/C (contrary to ad) and the fan they provided instead wouldn't stay plugged in. Swimming pool was locked ("to keep people from using it" !! said the maintenance guy who finally unlocked it for me in the middle of the afternoon). Also tv was hard to operate; two different remotes and it was not clear what each was for and how to get them to work together.

We were supposed to stay at the Grey Squirrel for 3 nights in August and ended up only staying 2 nights since the cabin was so terrible and the place was gross. We were given the "Enchanted Forest," 4 bedroom, 2 bath cabin which looked more Haunted than Enchanted. They were clearly in the middle of remodeling the cabin (and doing a terrible job of it) and all of the old stuff was outside our back windows, which made it look like a junkyard. Instead of rustic mountain ambiance we had a disgusting and massive pile of junk to look at from all the back windows. In addition there were multiple issues with the cabin, which I emailed to the owner/management after the first night and they refused to refund us for the third night or provide any form of compensation. Here were some issues with the "Enchanted Forest" cabin... - mold/mildew in the upstairs bathtub - bathtub was completely clogged and filled with water soon after turning on the shower and we were not even able to use it. - bathtub was dirty and cabin was not cleaned well - dishwasher drains hot water in the sink and sink started to overflow with very hot water - there was a junk yard in the back of the cabin - The shag carpet looked and smelled like it was from the 1970s - The upstairs smelled of mold - The upstairs bedroom door did not close as one of the queen beds was completely blocking the door from closing. Unfortunately after telling the management about all of this, they only had the following to say... "Rega

We were looking forward to staying at this resort and had not been there in many years. We checked in and were given the key to our room. we noticed that the grounds were in poor shape and run down. we opened the door to our cabin and saw it had not been cleaned, the bedroom was dirty and bed not changed. the bathroom was a mess and the kitchen was unacceptable. This was a deluxe cabin King bedroom, sorry to say we will never stay at this resort!

I will always come back to this adorable little cabin when I come to Big Bear. It is perfect with a cute little fireplace to enjoy and kitchen to cook in! I must say that the bed and sheets were dreamy!!! So much so that I tried to look for a label so I can buy one for home!

The cabins need a little TLC. The first one we checked into was obviously not ready to rent. The cable box in the bedroom was missing, so no TV in the bedroom. The closet rod was on the floor with all the hangers strewn throughout the room and the smoke alarms chirped in the night. Had to take the batteries out. BUT...with all that said, Billy and Rosa helped us out and got us moved to another cabin.

The outside of the vocabulary was pretty. The inside, not so much. The floors were so dirty you had to wear socks or your feet would be black. The bathroom smelled of mold. They did not come daily to clean, we had to go to the office to get toilet paper. The free breakfast consist of pop tarts and packaged muffins. Advertised hot tub that has been down for a while per the front desk. We paid over $200 a night with Expedia that we could have gotten at $129 if we booked straight with the resort. I would not recommend.

The water tap was very hard to turn on;. There was only one water glass in the room; had to go to the office and ask for another one. The lighting was so dim in the room (one bedside lamp did not work.) we were unable to read a newspaper. We were there for 2 nights; I was told they do not clean the rooms every day as you would expect when you are charged $172. a night!!! Obviously we would not stay there again!!!!
