Papagayo Beach Hotel

Absolutely stunning views!! Excellent staff. We greatly enjoyed our visit

For what we paid per night, we were not satisfied with what we got. The biggest thing was the mildew, musty smell in both (yes I said both) of our rooms. We had two rooms because the first one smelled so bad. Nothing like walking into your room at 11PM after a long travel day at your expensive hotel to gag on the smell in the room. Thankfully at least the hotel staff was decent and said we could change rooms. Unfortunately that room smelled too. When they tried to fix it, it smelled overly like orange. I just don't know why they don't invest a little in a dehumidifier or something. Another thing that happened which we didn't appreciate was somehow for a couple of days our names weren't on security's lists so anytime we wanted to park in the lot behind the hotel or walk back to the hotel from the beach late at night they would say we weren't on the list. It made us feel like we were sneaking onto the property when in fact we were staying there. Lastly, when we tried to get drinks and food by the pool they apparently did not tell us we could put a deposit down and just charge our purchases to our room. We had a card but they didn't take AMEX so I had to walk to the room. Again, the customer service was responsive but for $240+ per night we were left feeling discontent. The rooms are OK, a bit odd but nice and new looking. The beach areas around the hotel are pretty nice, the pool is nice, its also nice you can get drinks and food by the pool but they are overpriced of course.

The property itself is ok, the staff at the front desk is great they are knowledgeable and very helpful. The rest of the staff at the facility i.e. the Restaurants and etc are all lack luster at best and lack customer service skills. The pool area needs a bit of upgrading and servicing. Their are little to no amenities on site.

The staff were extremely accommodating and welcoming. We arrived early before we were able to check in. They held our luggage and gave us full access to amenities while we waited. They showed us around and we felt very taken care of.

Overall the property was very nice. I wouldn't put it in luxury category that is marketed. The staff was very friendly and made arrangements for taxi service downtown and to/fro the airport with no issues.

Service and staff are lazy. Food was horrible. Beach and views are amazing
