Sinclairs Darjeeling

I have to relate a most disappointing experience with the night duty manager on the Oct 16th evening. I paid in cash the bill for 23,667 Indian rupees but one 500 rupee note had figures written on it. I was asked to replace it but I didn't have another note and neither did I want to use my credit card. I advised that the disfigured note was given to me by the money changer down the road, suggested by the hotel staff. I protested that it was not my fault. The duty manager was just as eager to defend his position, saying it was not his fault if he couldn't accept the note. The hotel receptionist contacted the money changer there and then and the latter was willing to replace it. The duty manager instructed another staff to accompany me to meet the money changer at about 9.30 pm to get the the note replaced. I think it was not an appropriate decision to make me walk down to the money changer in the cold of the night. He left me with no choice because I was unsure what he would do next. I must say your duty manager did not know how to handle a simple problem and he showed no guest relationship. He considered having the 500 rupee replaced immediately was a price the hotel could pay for losing the goodwill from me.

Old hotel at the top of a steep road.

Nice hotel but needs to be updated. Hallways are like school corridors, dark wood on the walls and some information posters to provide relief. Hotel is situated at the top of a very steep road with a 40plus step staircase to the hotel entry.

Not worth the hype

Not the best place for couples. Its a fairly decent option for Family with kids since they have games room. Rooms are overpriced considering the amenities and the location.

Good Hotel In Darjeeling

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, check in was fast, free upgrade on registration. Room was comfortable with a terrific view of the Himalayas when the mist lifted. Nice lounge for a night cap. Location is close to the town, toy train and observation hill ,Staff were always ready to help and attentive, good breakfast in a pleasant dining room. Slight problem with wi fi , however I would not hesitate to use this hotel again and would recommend. Dave and Sal Yorks

Friendly hotel close to town centre

The hotel staff are so very friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. The head chief would make us a surprise treat each morning with our breakfast . Was so special. Great views from the rooms clean, tidy and close to center of town. Would stay again.

Gear experience

Room was clean along with bathroom, good view and excellent stuff. Restaurant was great with small but tasty menu. Free breakfast buffet was good too. Booked sightseeing with hotel but it was a bit expensive with added 12% tax.

Sinclairs Darjeeling - Good value for money

Very good and comfortable stay for 2 nights. Booked deluxe rooms but was upgraded free to premium rooms on arrival. From these rooms we could view the Kanchenjungha clearly. The complimentary breakfast covers items reasonably. The alacarte dinner items are also cooked nicely. All the hotel staff are always ready to serve. Special mention of Mr Jogen of front desk. Overall good value for money. But ... despite all these, the big problem is location. From the taxi stand opposite Keventer's it is quite some walk, then a very steep road upto the hotel and then 60+ steps to reach the premium rooms in the second floor. Difficult not only for senior citizens but any person. The hotel does not have any plan to solve this.
