Terrible Experience - Do Not Book

To all future customers: do not book this hotel ever! Customer service is non existent. The worst experience in my life. Booked two nights on a business trip which required me working remotely. Reception gave me the wifi password to connect. Dropped the bags, left the hotel to eat before work and came back to find out that wifi is not working. Tried to discuss this with reception only for them to tell me that many guests experience the same problem and this is not their fault. I informed them that I will need to leave the hotel immediately as I cannot stay not working - again business trip and wifi needed to work. I did not sleep in the bed, did not use bathroom or toilet, did not even sit on the chair as all I was trying to do was connecting to wifi which was not happening. I informed reception staff that I expected not to be charged for the hotel that I left because of no wifi and did not use the room or their facilities: only my luggage stayed in that room while I was out eating. They told me the manager would call me next day. Needless to say nobody called and then I saw a full night charge posted to my card. Called back to talk to the manager and no matter what I was saying she told me that because I canceled on arrival they charged me full night. It did not matter that wifi was advertised and not working. Neither it did that I did not use the room. She did not care either that I would not book in first place if I knew there was no wifi available.

This place was way overpriced for it’s condition. The floors in the hallways and in the room were filthy and stained with who knows what. The room was too hot and the window didn’t open and the air conditioner was pitiful.

Need to work on getting rooms ready.

The hotel is fine, just had a lot of problems with check-in. We got there about 6 pm and our room wasn’t ready. They told us 90 minutes until it was clean. When we came back in 90 they said they didn’t know it needed to be cleaned and we had to wait another 40 minutes. All this while watching others check into rooms in other parts of the hotel. Another couple said they had reservations there at the beginning of their trip and at the end and had the same issue both times.

Slipping down the slippery slope.

Airport shuttle was 25 minutes late, for a 4 minute ride! Then at 9:00pm, the room wasn’t ready, even though check out is at 11:00am. Then the sink in the bathroom was broken so that the drain plug was stuck in the closed position so the sink would not drain! On the bright side, it’s the cheapest place to stay in Anchorage but it’s slipping. Years ago when I stayed here it was much better.

Could be better

We stayed at the annex building and it seemed okay at first, I looked in the fridge and there was an old pizza in there. We tried signing in with the Wi-Fi, but it wasn't working so I told the staff later on and they said it was down and they were trying to fix it. So we waited another day to see if it'll get fixed and it was still bad, I tried asking if they could move us to the other building but they weren't able to. They said that it was working, but on our end it wasn't working the whole week. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was great! Their laundry closes at 10PM FYI, for anyone who does last minute laundry before checkout. So do your laundry before 10PM lol. It has a perfect location for me, there's a store nearby. I'll only stay here again IF I need to.

Low cost for Anchorage, but not very good

Pretty disappointing. The wifi was not working for my whole stay. When I checked in, the water was running through the toilet all the time. A plastic part of the flushing mechanism had broken off and hammed under the flap. I solved that, but it took until the next day before the fixed it. The staff were polite, but they seemed disorganized and likely understaffed.

Understaffed

The front desk workers were fine but the hotel only had two maids to clean 80 rooms so needless to say our room was not ready. They stored our bags and went into town to return at 4:00 and still not ready. Ended up finally getting into room at 6:00. Also our room was a block away in a different building so we had to walk and drag our bags down the street to a building without an elevator. Very inconvenient. STAY somewhere else!! Holiday inn was right across the street

Puffin Inn was actually better than expected. Shuttle service to the airport was 24 hours a day, which I needed. They also offered to pick me up when I dropped off the rental car the night before, saving me money on a taxi. The owner of the hotel also gave out some of his personal photographs of Alaskan wildlife to us.
