Sonesta ES Suites Portland - Vancouver

THE room smelled horrible like smoke, and I requested another blanket and had to drive Down to the lobby, pre request of the front desk to pick it up..no box fan available.

This used to be a Residence Inn. It's nicely furnished and in good condition. There's not much appealing about the surrounding area except a Starbucks very close, and proximity to the freeway system. , My one serious beef with the hotel: When I arrived, the clerk said I did not have a reservation. When I pulled out my laptop and showed her my Hotels.com confirmation, she said I was there on the wrong day. Apparently she looked at my check-OUT date instead of my check-IN date. A couple of managers came over and got it straightened out.

Tremendous value. I was impresssed from the beginning by the excellent front ddsk service. The young man gave us an excellent room. Quiet and well appointed with ample parking and easy access ro local resraurants and shopping. Whether the stay is a short trip or an extended one I felt more like a home away from home with the well designed kitchen. To top it off, the breakfast was superb, everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. It would be hard to imagine a better value. This was my first stay at a Sonesta establishment, but it surely will not be my last. Bravo!

My first time at Sonesta. This one met most of my criteria, in order of importance: Price (budget conscious), (believable) customer reviews (prefer 3 or more stars), and location (safe, quiet, easy access, proximity to where I'll be going). After that, I rate on cleanliness, comfort, and service. In many regards, this Sonesta exceeded my expectations. The "room" was actually an efficiency apartment, with comfortable (firm) king bed, sitting area with loveseat, table, and TV, and a full kitchen with full-size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and kitchen utensils/dishes/glassware. We only used the refrigerator, but there was all the other. The place was very clean but with one disappointing note. This "non-smoking" room had the strong smell of stale cigarette smoke upon entering. It became less noticeable after a bit, but I'd like to see the place deodorized and perhaps fine violators. Wi-Fi (including the business center and our room) was also out our first morning but was rebooted when we returned. The TV was SLOW to change channels and there was no program guide. The toilet and tub/shower were separate from sink and dressing area. The shower head was easily adjustable and liquid soap/shampoo/conditioner dispensers were on the wall. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast had a decent selection but some was very "institutional" quality (I could write a book; ask me later). All said, the good outweighed the not as good.
