Friendly Bungalows - Ostrov Tanna

A beautiful setting, and very remote. Friendly bungalows are lovely, and the staff were very helpful and kind. Be prepared however that all food and activities are suprisingly expensive (even in comparison to prices for the same activities with other people on Tanna island.) $30 AUS for an evening meal, or $100 AUS per person for a volcano walk. The […] other frustrating thing is that the activity prices are per head. So you're a couple? Pay twice for everything, but get the same service as one. The excuse for food is the "remote" nature of the village, this would be acceptable if all of the ingredients in the meals weren't available within 200m of the venue - eggs, cucumber, chicken, banana, pawpaw etc. We avoided spending all our money at Friendly by arranging trips with Kelson from Jungle Oasis, near the foot of the volcano. But we still had to pay a considerable sum for the transfer to see him. On the positive side, The local villagers are great, meals hearty and location stunning. IF you're not bothered by spending a bit of money, this is probably the most beautiful setting on Tanna, and very well run. So take about 10,000V per person, per day, and you'll havea great time! If you want a true experience of life on Tanna island there is nothing better than in a traditional bungalow. It is a remote and untouched part of the island, and walking distance to many villages. If you want resort style accommodation don't go here, but if you want a taste of how the locals live it is fabulous.

This was an excellent place to stay to have an authentic experience of living in a bungalow. We absolutely loved it and it was very suitable for our small children (2 years old) as the beds were low to the ground and comfortable. The handheld shower was useful but the coral underfoot was uncomfortable for the children, although a towel on the ground […] solved that problem easily. The sound of the waves at night was very relaxing. The staff were wonderful to talk to, especially Joyce and we learnt a lot from them - they were only too happy to talk about life on Tanna island. The main problem we experienced was that there was only one vehicle available for tours and picking up people at the airport. As it was in use on our second day we were not able to drive anywhere and missed out on seeing Port Resolution and other sights close by. With 2 small children we were not able to go for long walks so were relying on some transport. Our vehicle left late to go to the volcano on our first day so we were only able to see Mt Yasur at night and never managed to see it during the day, up close, which was quite disappointing. Despite this, we made the most of our stay and spent a lot of time with the local children who answered our questions, took us out in their canoes and played and swam with our children. We also walked to a village close by with some of the staff who were extremely hospitable. An absolutely amazing experience! We will definitely be back when our children are older. Ďalšie informácie
