Simple elegance

We stayed in room 3. With the slanted ceiling I wouldn't recommend it for a tall person. The room was comfortable but there was no TV in the room. The WiFi wouldn't stay connected even though our phones and computer are only a year or two old. Parking is on the street which is at a premium when the restaurants next door are open. Although the room is on the small size, it is quite nice, esp. the bedding and the bathroom is very spacious. Although there are no TV's in the rooms, there is a lounge downstairs with a TV and WiFi throughout. Breakfast contains lots of fresh fruit in a continental style. We booked the Orca Room, which is charming and has one of the most comfortable beds my husband and I ever slept in while away from home. Great place for the price. The scones for breakfast are to kill for. Within walking distance of most attractions.

We stayed here one night while attending a birthday party for an old friend. We appreciated being allowed to bring our dog, and we only had to book one night. The bed was comfortable and the room very pleasant and sunny. We had a very lovely breakfast the next morning with many selections but we chose fresh berries, fresh baked coffee cake, and toasted […] bagels with cheese. Affordable and comfortable inn with friendly service, close walking distance to delicious food and the scenic coast.

Very well located, small and cozy. Nice bedding, allowed dogs for extra fee. Clean, nice continental breakfast, easy place to stay.

We've stayed twice now. Love the location and the peacefulness. In a unit with a kitchen, being able to stay in on a cold night and make dinner was great. Breakfast was limited but tasty. We took ours to our room because as mentioned in other posts, the breakfast space is small.

It was perfect, we enjoyed the age of the building, the kitchenette and the views . The owner was friendly and around when needed. The house is a tiny bit off the main drag which also made it quieter. Would be happy to return.

The inn keeper was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions for dinner and things to do. The stairs going to the second floor were steep and narrow, but the room was clean and the bed the best!!!! The breakfast was wonderful and extensive. Had a wedding to attend and needed a place to stay for two nights. I have had bad experiences with B&Bs and was, to say it mildly, skeptical. But to my great surprise, the Nicholson House was PERFECT - quiet, comfortable, reasonable and very very very convenient. We stayed two nights at Nicholson House. The rooms in the house are decorated to a very high standard and everything is clean. The breakfast is unrivalled as to its wide range and excellent quality. It is served in a hospitality room, which is quite small and guests are encouraged to collect their breakfasts and take them upstairs. However, such is […] the family atmosphere in this house, that there is no awkwardness or preciousness about the breakfast experience and the small space actually contributes to the cosiness of the shared breakfast experience. The family atmosphere has only one drawback. This is a converted family home. My wife and I slept on our first night along from a family of a mother with her two small children and we were separated only by a locked door. We could hear their every whisper and they could hear us. It is the closest I have come to sleeping in a dormitory since I went to school over four decades ago and my wife and I agreed that it would not be suitable for a honeymoon couple. You do have to keep very quiet, if you do not want your room neighbours - who seem to be in the next bed - to hear your every move and every breath. Apart from that this is a brilliant place to stay. It does fit in with the character of Mendocino as a whole and I can recommend it wholeheartedly - unless you are a courting couple. Our visit was blemished by one small incident at the very end, which was that the toilet became blocked on the morning we left. No 'unnatural' strains were placed on the plumbing by us and I can well imagine the embarrassment and inconvenience this might have caused to room occupants if the blockage had occurred in the middle of the night. A small irritant is that the wifi was temperamental and we could not get it most of the time, although this was supposed to be available and a device to extend the signal had only just been installed. Nice B&B from which you can easily walk around in Mendocino. The Breakfast was nice (the raspberry-scones were delicious)!

This place was just what I needed. Don't expect all of the bells and whistles of a large hotel chain, as this should be what a bed and breakfast is all about. Not located near the water, but is still in a great spot for a nice walk through town.

Good location, nice accomodations in the Emerald Forest room. Other rooms seems nice, but most had painted walls where wallpaper would have been much nicer and more in line with the age of the hotel. Breakfast was nice, but breakfast room is quite small and will only seat 3 people. Restaurants in the area are quite expensive and it was told to us that the portions were not up to the expense of the meal. We stayed one night in this B&B. It was comfortable and the owner was nice. We had to leave the next morning before breakfast was served. It wasn't served until 8:30. Great B&B in Mendo village. We had the cheapest room and it was still large and had it's own bathroom. The entire place was clean and inviting. Best of all, each room has their own thermostat so you can control the heat! The breakfast was good and the Inn Keeper was friendly. I will come back here!

This is in the heart of Mendocino and is within walking distance of town. It is a smaller bed and breakfast but for the price it can not be beat. The breakfast was ok and again for the price it can not be beat. I did think it was a little odd that breakfast did not get going until almost 9:00am but my wife made coffee before the owner put out breakfast […] so it was all good. We really enjoyed our stay (December 27th, 2010)! The room was cute (Whale Room) and the the rest of the bed and breakfast was beautiful. The owner was very hospitable. The view was also nice.

The bedroom we were allocated (Orca) was very small. I imagine the others to be similar in size. Breakfast was a strange affair, taken in the TV room, since there were no tables and chairs as such, just a sofa and coffee table that you perched on. We left after two nights, even though we had booked and paid for three.

Stayed here for a romantic getaway and were pleasantly surprised how wonderful the location was. Although it's not beachfront property, it is walking distance. Not to mention the town is so cute you want to walk around. It is next door to Cafe Beaujolais which is where we had dinner and it was amazing. The only problem we had during our stay is when […] the water tank went out and we had no water in the morning to shower. We stayed 2 nights but wished we had been able to stay longer. The owner who booked us in was really friendlyand helpful. We were warmly welcomed and the room was really cosy with nice decor and very well maintained. The breakfast was the best we had in out 2 week stay in the USA with a wide range of fresh high quality items. We loved the place. Very nice little romantic B&B. Right near everything in downtown, but off the main st, so not a lot of traffic. The guy running it was very friendly and helpful about pointing out locations to visit. Breakfast was basic, but it was all we needed after the fancy dinners the night before.
