"Good hotel for short stay"
The hotel room and service was better than expected with a good breakfast. However, the location is not ideal for travelling into Memphis using public transport or on foot, especially at night.

It was kinda scary when we first drove up at night thinking we were in a bad neighborhood but as it turns out it was okay and no problems.
"Convenient to Downtown and Midtown"
We live in eastern Shelby County and we attend numerous events in downtown and midtown Memphis. At the end of the evening it just makes sense to make a short trip to the Hotel rather than a half hour trip home after a night of entertainment. We don't Drink and Drive so we do the smart thing and stay at the Gen-X Inn!
"Great place, great price"
Right on the trolley line with access to downtown. Staff were GREAT - very friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Great place/location for the price.

"GENERATION X MEMPHIS"
A little out of town but on the tram line Downtown and easy access to a bus route to Graceland. Both these areas are at extremes so travel is involved wherever you stay. This hotel gives access to cheap transportation. Staff friendly and helpful and breakfast is substantial and worthwhile. Very happy with our stay.

The room was clean enough and the building was not in terrible condition but the location was not what I would suggest for a weekend tourist. Not walking distance from the action of downtown and no close sites to make the distance worthwhile. Should not be advertised as a "Downtown" location- "midtown" at best.

The hotel itself is lovely, very friendly and helpful staff, good selection of food for breakfast, rooms very clean and hotel nicely decorated, although wireless internet connection is very erratic - hardly any signal and kept cutting out. However, the neighbourhood is too far from both the city centre and midtown to walk, and staff seemed a little […] wary of us walking round after dark by ourselves, making it difficult to get to any bars etc without driving - not ideal if you want a couple of drinks. Trolley line runs past the hotel, but the stops are a few hundred yards in each direction, and both involve walking through areas which consist almost entirely of empty buildings, multi-storey car parks and motorway intersections and are very unwelcoming after dark. The trolley also ends very early on an evening, last tram back from town is about 10.50pm, except on Saturdays, when it's a little later. The hotel itself is a good and affordable choice if you want a couple of days in Memphis and you're happy to drive around, but if you're after a bit more to do on a night, it might be worth looking at hotels in the city centre itself, or in Midtown, which is further out but is a bit more vibrant. "Excellent price, great room, good location."
Best Western Plus Gen X Inn is a great value. It's close to the downtown attractions, and public transportation is conveniently right outside. The hotel and the room were clean and maintained. Speaking of the room, it was modern and comfortable. Although the bathroom was small, it served its purpose and had great water pressure. Great hotel but trolley going by was noisy at night.

Took three trips back down to the lobby to get a key that worked. They finally had to move us to a different room after determining that the door was broken. That took awhile since there was a guy at the desk complaining that they hadn't given him the number of beds he had paid for. The area is not good. I live in a downtown area in another city and […] usually don't get concerned, but this was pretty bad. The "one block" to the trolley is really three blocks through a deserted ghost town. We had hoped to take the trolly down to Beale. Fortunatly the bus driver saw us and stopped to tell us the trolly was stuck in an accident up ahead and had us get on the bus. We took a cab back and it was only about $10 (with a tip) I would reccomend that to anyone. The next morning, I was awoken by VERY loud plumbing rattles that honestly, I thought were jackhammers. I really can't believe they can stay in business with that noise. Everytime someone turned on a shower in a nearby room it shook the entire room. The breakfast was awful, as everything was cleared out by 9:00am. The coffee was strong, if that's a plus, it's the only one. The room itself was ok. They have made an effort to decorate the rooms, though I would imagine it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I am usually a pretty laid back guest and understand I am getting a "good deal" so I don't expect the red carpet. This was totally different. "Amneties Charge of $100.00 and Nothing is free"
The hotel is easily accessed by Interstate 240. The neighborhood is ok. Rooms are wonderful, elevators work sometimes. Breakfast is ceral, bananas, coffee, milk, and waffles this hotel offers very little else.

Nice hotel , some rooms are small . Our king was small but some of the two bed rooms are alot larger from what we could see walking down the hall the next day at check out when they were being cleaned.

This is a good motel that is a good value if location is your priority. There were some minor problems with maintenance in my room, the most important of which was a broken lock (the swing away security type - the main locks worked). This motel is part of the train to mimic boutique hotels in a sort of superficial way, but in reality is just a good basic motel with a reasonable but limited breakfast and good service staff. It is near to hospitals which I would guess is its main selling point. "Great price, really nice people and rooms"
We live in Memphis, and had never been in this hotel before we booked it for a night out. The location is great for getting downtown on the Madison Ave. trolley line. Granted, the neighborhood surrounding the hotel can be sketchy for walking at night, but so can anywhere. Grab a cab if you are coming late from dinner or a show downtown. "Nice get a way"
This was a nice getaway for me and my boyfriend, we don't get out much. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay at GenX. The staff was great, and I left a jacket there and it was sent home to me... thanks for the honesty.............
"HOW DISHONEST"
We drove into Memphis very late at night whilst on a two week roadtrip. Checked in, which was pleasant, but then our nightmare started the luggage cart had a flat tire and couldn't maneuver very easlier, the room was fairly descent, although carpets had horrible stains on, the coffee machine did not work and the window rattled the whole night, we didn't […] want to wake up our daughter to move rooms so we tried our best to get some shut eye as we were only there for one day and had loads to see and visit the next day, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN, upon bringing it up to Jennifer, the manager the next day she proceeded to tell us that the luggage cart tire was not flat, the coffee machine did work and the window did not rattle, wow what huge imaginations we must have, she did however move us to a different room and did promise us a 30% refund for the night, which up to date we haven't got. "Fantastic room"
Stayed here for the Memphis Marathon weekend, room was huge, loved it. I originally selected this hotel because it was located on the trolly line, thinking we could just park at the hotel and ride the trolly everywhere we wanted to go...not so...we didn't ride the trolly once (never really saw one) and had to drive the approx 2 miles downtown, then […] pay $10 every time we wanted to park in a downtown lot...Therefore, next time I come for the Marathon, I will book a hotel in the immediate downtown area, or if I have to be further out, will go with something cheaper, since we had to drive in anyway... "Gen X Memphis - Great Bang for the Buck"
Very friendly and courteous staff, but as a family owned hotel, you might find them wandering around or in the fitness center or playing computer games in the evening. Great design and feel to the hotel and rooms, very comfortable. Excellent continental buffet with belgian waffle maker and complimentary newspaper. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

The outside of the building made me nervous, but the staff was friendly. The hotel was clean, and modern. It was different and quaint. My son said it was the coolest hotel ever. We were late getting up and the lady at the front desk went out of her way to ensure my son got cereal and milk for us to take to the room. The hotel was extremely quiet. The neighborhood was a little rundown, but the hotel seemed safe. The rooms were clean, but on check in, the first room we were assigned to had a broken dead bolt, and the sink drain in the bathroom would not open. We asked for another room, were given another room on another floor.

Hotel was clean and nicely furnished, close to downtown on trolley route. Internet access is via cable... not wireless but they provided a cable. Overall a good value for the price.

While the location was ok, our overall experience was ruined because of the temperature of our room. We had walked around all day in the heat and found first no pool then that our room was about 98 degrees on the 5th floor at 9 p.m. when we checked in. Our air was completely turned off when we arrived. We turned it on and went back to the lobby and […] were not offered anything for our discomfort. Was overall pleased with the hotel and staff. Although it was right on the trolley line, the stop was a little further walk than I anticipated and I did not feel the safest walking from it to the hotel late at night. Overall it was a good stay. I would definately stay there again and recommend it to others.

This hotel is a good location, clean, freindly, & quiet. The breakfast is enough for most, parking is safe &well lit . The rain shower head would be a plus if just a little more water pressure.

I've stayed here a couple of times, and I like it for cost and location. It's a very reasonable 'boutique' hotel, with a contemporary decor. Rooms are spacious and include amenities more expensive hotels have, including a small fridge. I intend to stay there on future visits.

We had a great time here at this hotel. We took the trolley down to Main St and then walked over to Beale, on the way back we took the trolley back to Madison st then back to the hotel, a great location! The breakfast was delicious, even had waffles! The staff was friendly and the parkinglot is gated. what a wonderful hotel!

This hotel was about what I expected after reading the reviews: nice, small and passable. I chose it because the price was in line with what I wanted to pay and the location was pretty good. I'm glad I did. The hotel isn't the lap of luxury but it's passable, but I will say that I was disapponted with the fitness facility... it's tiny and poorly equipped. […] Other than that, it was just fine. The walls are quite thin and the door seals out NO SOUND, but I wasn't too disturbed, ti wasn't horrible. Bear in mind they only have 32 rooms, and judging by the parking lot, they never had that many rented in the three nights I was there.
