"Awesome hotel with comfortable beds"
The beds were so comfortable that we took off the sheets so we could find out what they were and w can buy one for our home. The breakfast is fairly standard with eggs, potatoes, toasts, pastries, and a waffle bar, but the food is good. The rooms were very clean and we loved the restaurant so much that we didn't want to leave. Good location but a bit noisy due to proximity to the major roads and planes landing. Air conditioner / heater was extremely noisy and had to be turned off. TV channels were snowy and not sequential meaning that flipping channels up and down would yield in some channels missing causing loud white noise on the TV. Towels were not very clean and very […] thin looking like they needed to be replaced a few years ago. When I unfolded a towel from the rack, I noticed some brown sticky "stuff" on the "fresh" towel on my last day staying there and I made sure I put it aside for maids to see. This is an old but clean hotel. Our TV didn't work and the desk clerk didn't know how to fix it and since we'd gotten in past midnight there was no maintenace staff. We were on a 5 hour time change so we wanted to watch TV. The desk clerk suggested we should just "watch the channel the TV was on". "Make sure your room is not above the bar."
Rooms were clean, restaurant servers great food and the staff is very pleasant. The hotel has a bar in it and our room happened to be right above it. I had a LONG day and when I got to my room was not able to sleep until after 1am due to the music and noise from the pub downstairs. It was like the party was next door. I booked my room about 4-6 weeks […] before so to get a room over the bar was unacceptable. Yes, it was a Friday night, however many travelers may not be looking to party or be kept awake by others. Good experience of staying in an old English style inn. The rooms were smaller than I expected but the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was simple but the dinning area was good. I stayed at the Abercorn almost 20 years ago and it feels the same only times have changed. I seems dark, closed in and like a British theme park that is just out of date. What is there isn't what Britain is today and the world view presented seems dowdy, drab and depressing compared to other hotels in the area. "Comfort without Heat"
The Abercorn certainly had the most comfortable beds among the many Vancouver hotels we've stayed in. On arrival we managed to catch a shuttle quickly at the airport and booked quickly into a room. However, the room was heated like a sauna and the LG heater wouldn't turn off. Apparently, they had no one on staff to fix things. We moved rooms. The second […] room had a LG heater that wouldn't turn on. This was better but there was no heat. The morning breakfast was good and the room was quiet. We took a taxi to the Bridgeport Station for five dollars, which gave us quick access to Skytrain and buses. He was quite rude (given the distance was short we figured). We have stayed at the Best Western Abercorn in Richmond B.C. a number of times and it has always been a positive experience. The hotel may be somewhat dated but its clean and tidy and very close to the airport with a shuttle service which is excellent. "noisy location, old building"
When I called from the airport at 8 pm to request shuttle service, there was no answer at the hotel. I was unsure of what to do when fortunately a shuttle appeared. When I arrived the front desk clerk said she was too busy to answer the phone as she was by herself. The hotel itself was old and in a very noisy location sandwiched between 2 busy arterial […] roads. I requested a quiet room but there are none. The room itself was OK and the complimentary breakfast was fine but there are much better choices of hotel in this price bracket with better customer service, modern facilities and quiet location.
