The hotel is situated in a great location, however the toilet was broken, toilet was wobbly, it was so hot in the room I could not sleep a wink. Room was good. Service was great. Right in the heart of Banff Ave so you really can't go wrong with the location. We had a bit of a lengthy trek from the elevator to get across to where our room was. The rooms are amazing! I was pleasantly surprised with the size and style of the room. Location is awesome right downtown banff walking distance of shopping and restaurants. I have stayed at The Mount Royal a total of 20 nights, last weekend was the worst stay I have had there. No fault of the staff, just a couple of drunks who had a domestic dispute in the room next to mine at 3:30 a.m. Police arrived at 4:00 and everything was quiet by 4:30. The room was clean and comfortable. Would have been nice to have a fridge but that seems to be a common problem with Banff hotels. A centrally located hotel, clean rooms, good resturant connected to the hotel and service minded staff. We stayed three days in Banff, and the location of the hotel was perfect, with short distance to shops, bars, resturants and ski-bus. We were only at the hotel for one night so it was fine for that, but you can tell they are trying to update the hotel. Good intentions but bad outcome. Out room was in the farthest corner of the hotel that you could think of, paint was all over the door and light. The baseboards were falling off the wall or not installed properly. "Great hotel for anyone in a great location."
We stayed at tthe Mount Royal from 30th Jan to 6th Feb, 2013, and found it to be very convenient location for everything in the town. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel so was quiet and had views of Mount Rundle. We wished we had a fridge but like most hotels in Banff, they are so old […] they can't take the electrics, but it wasn't a huge problem. Also the jacuzzi wasn't very hot, neither was the room that it was in and the sauna was being serviced, so it only worked on the Saturday, which was a shame, as it was needed after a day of skiing! I really liked our room, it was the cheapest option in hotel, room had 2 queen beds and a separate area with small coffee table, chairs, coach, it was separated from bedroom. This was a trip for my hubbies 40th birthday. I had booked a standard king room. When I checked us in I asked the lady if she could do a good deal on an upgrade, as we were there for my husbands 40th. After a few mins she gave us the new room key. "Great value"
We had a fantastic stay at the Mount Royal Hotel. The value was fantastic, it was so cheap I was not expecting it to be anywhere near as nice as it was. The rooms were very modern, TV quite large with a good choice of channels. I had read previous reviews that said there was no fridge, so we prepared ourselves for no fridge - but just like anywhere […] else there was a bar fridge. I had also read that it was too warm in the room, definitely not the case for us. If anything we couldn't get the room hot, but it was always comfortable. The shower temperature was a bit random, sometimes it would barely get lukewarm then all of a sudden it's boiling hot. The bed was super comfortable and the location was just fantastic. "Clean, comfortable and good value"
Overall a great value hotel in the heart of Banff, and free parking as well. We had no issues parking, but were there at the end of January, a quiet time. Check in was efficient, and our room was ready at 2.30. We had asked for a room away from lifts, stairs and ice rooms, and should have been a bit more specific as this request was taken literally […] and we had a hike with all our luggage, negotiating small stairs where the luggage trolley wouldn't go...we just didn't want the noise that comes with being right next to walkways etc. The bedroom was nice, clean and recently decorated, but the bathroom, again while clean, was showing signs of age, especially when compared to the bedroom. The bedroom windows don't open and the heating / cooling fan was noisy. We switched it off completely; fortunately, the room maintained a comfortable temperature for us without the fan on. Hotel is in best location right on the main street in the heart of the town. Parking is right behind the hotel and there is lots of it. The hotel lobby is simple but nice and the hallways are well maintained. Our room was nice enough with new carpeting and nice bedding. The beds were on the soft side. The bathroom was incredibly small and has not been […] updated in decades but then who spends time in the bathroom? There is no food service for breakfast but there is a McDonald's just down the street and many options across the street. For the price this is a great option. "Nice location, shame about the tepid tub."
Chose this hotel for the location, wi-fi, hot tub, sauna ,and Tony Romas. The location was there the remainder was not. The hot tub was barely warm, a request for more heat was made and nothing done, the sauna was about 24 degrees, cannot be turned up, ???????why not I wondered. Okay head to Tony Romas, oh, it is closed today for a staff meeting, close […] the entire place , for the entire night for a staff meeting? Okay, head to the room for some web browsing, unable to connect due to a poor connection, front desk advised that too many people were using the internet and there was not enough to go around????huh. Never was able to get a connection in three days. The room door was 3 inches from the floor, so everyone in the hall talking seemed to be in my room, hard to sleep . The second day the room was not made up, no fresh towels, no coffee , no bottled water , no soap, no beds made, they went home was what the desk said when asked what was going on??? Not impressed. The hotel itself is worth the price. Free parking, free wifi, location is right on Banff Avenue. The hotel was clean and even updated a little. However, I only booked this hotel for a couple of reason; the price, the location, and the hot tub. The hot tub turned out to be a luke warm bath in the basement of the hotel. "Location was the only good thing about this hotel"
Front desk clerks rude and not very helpful. Telephone in the room didn't work, coffee machine spurted everywhere and we weren't able to drink any of it. This was our first time at the Mount Royal and it was perfect. We booked 2 rooms and they were both clean, renovated and the beds were very comfy! ( we stayed in the main part ) The service in the little pub was fantastic! We will definitely stay again. And The location... FANTASTIC!!
