Sleep Inn Summerville - Summerville

The Sleep Inn Summerville is conveniently located off I-26. It is very easy to find and there are lots of options for shopping, dining, etc. close by. It is also just a short drive from Historic Downtown Summerville. This hotel is obviously older (smoking rooms, no elevator, small spaces, etc). There are other hotels at the same exit, even on the same […] street, that appear newer and in better condition. Had I been able to book further ahead and/or known more about this particular hotel, I might have stayed at one of the other chains. When I made my reservation the only rooms available were smoking rooms. Apparently Sleep Inn Summerville is one of the few hotels left which hasn't converted to all non-smoking rooms. In addition, the only bedding arrangement seemed to be Double Standard rooms. The room itself was as clean as could be expected. Although it definitely looked dated with 70s gold polyester bedspreads and definitely had a smokey smell (that no amount of air freshener could hide) and the walls, sink, hair dryer, etc had the unmistakable yellow tinge of years of smoke. I thought the room was very small. Both beds were almost touching walls, with only about 2 feet between them. I believe the hotel had undergone some renovations in the last few years. I would have recommended that they convert their remaining Double Standard rooms into King rooms to offer more space to their guests. Regular maintenance also seems to be an issue at this hotel. There were at least 3 lights and/or light switches in my room that did not work, including one in the bathroom. The bathroom had a pocket door (a common feature in older Sleep hotels, I'm finding) and the original 'handle' had come off. A cabinet type handle had been put on in its place, but it was very loose as well. The shower was also missing a handle on the inside of the door, but luckily it opened outward. This hotel was ok. The rooms were pretty small and the shower definitely could have used a good scrub down; it had some mold on the edges (none on anywhere you would normally touch). The shower door was really hard to open also. Other than that, the room was pretty clean. Overall, it wasn't a bad hotel for one night for the price.

My brother in law was in critical condition at a Charleston Hospital. I worked all day and decided to drive the hour and a half to see him. I had stayed in Sleep Inn's many times and felt comfortable with booking with one in Summerville,SC. I arrived and from the outside and the front desk everything seemed normal. The normalcy that I had come to expect […] completely changed once I opened my door. I had stayed in better motels. The carpet was a dirty drab color. The bed looked like a mattress pad instead of a bed. The bathroom and shower was about the size of a small closet. The refrigerator and micorwave looked as if they bought them from a thrift store. The television was the best part of the entire room although most hotels have upgraded to flat screens. When traveling to a small city like Summerville , you expect to stay in old dirty hotels. With the hotels 2 star rating that is what I expected. The whole experience was nice, more like a 3 star hotel.

As hot as it was during my stay I sure could have used a refrigerator in my room.
