The Red Roof in Merrillville will never be mistake for the Ritz. That being said, the staff was very friendly, the rooms clean and serviced well during our stay. I booked for a king size bed room, but got two full size. But that wasnt the issue. The vending and ice room smelled yucky. But our room was very clean. They said free wifi but it was super duper slow. We left our room in the morning to an appt. when we returned our key wasnt working. it was clean and the front desk service was great, but I found out getting settled into my ground level room that the cleaning staff and other guests can easily be heard walking/talking back and forth from outside. Other than that, it was a really good stay for what I needed.

My stay was ok but i made reservation on a wednesday or thursday of the week for my stay for friday, I didn't get to hotel until about 8:00-8:30 pm and my room was not ready. at first the clerk was said the room i reserved, they didn't have any more avaiable, then i had to wait 30 minutes until i did get my room. If I had paid the same amount for this hotel as the neighboring ones, then I would have been upset. But, I paid half the price of the neighboring hotels, and I kind of got what I paid for. This is an older hotel and it was tired looking. The hotel has exterior facing rooms, which I wasn't expecting. As it had been icy earlier, there was salt spread […] everywhere and a lot was also on the carpet in my room, so I know they hadn't vacuumed it. But the bed linens were clean as well as the bathroom which are tops in my book. The office staff was pleasant and I was in and out of the office quickly. The area around the hotel had lots of restaurants and seemed quite safe. The worst thing was that the hotel is located by the interstate and our top floor room was very noisy. Maybe other parts of the hotel would be better. Also, the outside hallways had some trash and beer cans laying around. The room is small and probably wouldn't be comfortable for more than two people. If you are just passing through and want a cheap hotel for the night, then this is okay. If you are going to be spending quality time at the hotel, then you might want to try a different place. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and clean. The only negative to the place is the noise from the highway, but I got this room knowing that it was next to the interstate, so that's a given... I recommend it to any traveler who does not have issues with a little bit of traffic noise.

Quite a nice room for the money. It was a bit loud with the highway traffic because my room was at the end of the building right beside the highway. I'd bet if you got a room at the opposite end, it would be quieter.

Surprisingly Very nice room at an economy price. Excellent for a quick overnight stay. Nice flat screen tv, free movie channels, early check in available. Excellent locatioin near the mall, Starbucks, and tons of restaurant choices. The only drawback is that the hotel is very close to a busy interstate. The hotel itself was fine. The bed is too high for me. So I didn't hardly get any sleep, I kept waking up every two hours. I would recommend it to my friends.

we were in town for a wedding. we stayed for two nights,and i was very happy with our room and the staff. everyone was friendly and helpful. next trip to town i would stay there again. My husband who never sleeps when not in our bed, slept the whole night away.

Only complaint, there were no face towels. Not sure if it was an oversite or the norm. Many of us still use them! Updates were very nice. Flat screen tv, new heating and cooling units and new lighting.

This hotel was awful. It was supposed to be non smoking and it smelled like they smoked in their everyday. The blanket was dirty had a stain. It was very noisy due to it being off the highway. I would never go back.

Nice location just south of Chicago right off the Interstate. Good for a cheap overnight stay. The hotel is definitely dated so the facilities are adequate but nothing special. Maintenance needs improvement. Chair had a stain on both sides of the cushion. Did not sit in it. The grate for the temperature control unit was broken. Bed was reasonably comfortable and price was right.

we were headed to the Star Plaza Theater so I totally suggest it for the location. My personal preference in a bed is a bit softer so if you don't like a hard bed, don't stay. The place was clean; the people were nice; and it was a nice hotel overall.

Had to switch rooms bcs air and fridge weren't working in first and it smelled smokey. 2nd still had a hanger and something in the trash and some hairs in tub but otherwise fine. Having said this, I would go back to this hotel bcs issues resolved. Oh yeah, bring your own hairdryer. (Friends said they didn't like their room so maybe some are rennovated […] while others not?
