This hotel is remarkably beautiful. As with most historic hotels the rooms are smallish, but very cozy. It's a must stay if you want to get a sense of the rich UNC tradition right off of Franklin Street.

Our stay at the Carolina Inn was wonderful. It was directly across the street from the church and a short walk away from all of the other wedding activity locations. We visited the UNC campus during our free time. The hotel was clean, beautiful and all of the staff was very pleasant. Lovely Inn - quaint and charming. A bit overpriced for the size of the rooms and bathroom accomodations but overall a lovely property.

Great place for Carolina alumni/fans...Attractive, old fashioned look...very good restaurant... Our room was due for renovation...seriously so...the AC clanged and clucked all night...bathroom cramped and a bit dingy... given what it costs per night, hard to recommend to others...
"Perfect for Campus Visit"
The Carolina Inn is beautiful and right in the heart of the UNC Campus. We checked out and left the car at the hotel and took a quick 10 minute walk to the Admissions office for a tour. The perfect place to stay if you're visiting UNC.

I have stayed here before and have never been disappointed. It's a very historic and pleasant place to stay. And you can walk to many restaurants just blocks away. The rooms are cozy and clean, The bar is always open and the hotel restaurant is quite nice too.

Spent a memorable night at the Carolina Inn, the night the Heels avenged an earlier season loss to Duke in basketball. The hotel is a true classic with much charm and very friendly service staff and is nicely located a couple of blocks from the middle of Chapel Hill so everything is convenient yet one still feels somewhat insulated. One slight mishap […] (broken showerhead) was quickly remedied. Crossroads bar is a fun spot (be sure to wear Carolina blue if it's game day!) and the Crossroads restaurant is very good even if the staff apologetically made a lame excuse as to why they couldn't serve my daughter the same delicious burger that they made (and she saw) at the bar across the hallway ("we'd lose our AAA four star rating" - yeah, right). "There is a difference between Historic and Old"
This hotel has certainly seen its better years. The rooms felt old and dated. The tub was repainted rather than repaired. The carpets were worn and it had none of the magic we expected. Do yourself a favor and choose something else.

They will be completely renovated to the standard of our recently renovated Deluxe guest rooms and suites. The renovation should be fully completed by April 2013.

My wife and I love the Carolina Inn. Our room, which was not one of the newer rooms, was quite comfortable, especially the two beds. The reception is very welcoming, with hot chocolate chip cookies. The Crossroads Restaurant is top notch. The shrimp salad (with tomato, bacon and lettuce) on a crossaint with an argula salad was scruptious. "Southern Hospitality at Its Finest!"
What a fabulous stay we had ....everyone from the valet to the Concierge were gracious to a fault...I attended UNC-CH years ago and walked past the Carolina Inn everyday on my way to class and told myself that one day I would stay there...well, it was worth the wait!! Fabulous experience over winter break. We went for a basketball game, and the hotel offers a shuttle to the Dean Dome. Very convenient and wonderful service. "Southern Charm all the way"
Spent two nights here for a football game. It could not have been better. Fantastic location. Friendly staff. Fabulous amenities. Close walk to town, restaurants, bars and the football stadium. The festivities on Friday nights and pre/post football game are all excellent. Only bad thing is that my team lost to UNC.

The hotel is most conveniently located for a UNC visit, but it is also charming and the service is excellent.

Other than the overkill on the scent of flowers everywhere.... not natural, and way too sweet, this hotel is great. They don't even nickel and idme you as many upscale hotels do. Rooms are so pretty! Beds new.

This hotel was recommended by two doctors who did their undergraduate work at UNC. They had stayed here subsequent to their time at UNC on numerous occasions. From the moment we checked in and the wonderful light aroma of fresh roses in the lobby, the beautiful chandelier and lovely furnishings along with the warm smiles of the desk personnel and valets, […] we were sure this part of our journey would be special. Then the presentation of the warm chocolate chip cookies sealed the deal. We booked a double room with a cot and were delighted to be upgraded to a larger room without a cot. We spent very little time in the room but felt we would definitely book another stay there in the future. If our son decides to go to school there, this may just be our home away from home. My husband and I have travelled the world and stayed in places likes the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island and The Greenbriar in the US and felt that this hotel was as special as those and many others. We booked this hotel because we were attending a function there on Friday evening: Fridays on the Front Porch. The event was awesome. Lots of chairs, great music (not too loud so people could visit), perfect setting even for young children to play, excellent drinks and food for reasonable prices. We later had drinks and dinner at the bar in the hotel, […] where again we got great food for a reasonable price. Nice hotel but they put us in a single room, when they had many empty rooms. Thus we were crowded and had to call for an ex;tra washcloth and towels along with a robe, which we never did receive.. The bathroom was so small one could hardly turn around. The room would have been fine for a single person--thus the good rating I gave the hotel.
