It's good to stay in a historical hotel that has updated amenities. The bed was very comfortable and the valet parking was a must for me. The breakfast buffet was well worth the price, even if it hadn't been added into my room charge. The staff were all friendly and prompt. I would definitely stay there again.

It was a tiny room with one king size bed. It was what I needed but cable didn't work, plugs on the wall didn't work and the shower was tiny. Overall it was fair location definitely made up for it.

My wife and I stayed at the Lancaster because we were attending events at Wortham on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. It was much easier to valet at the Lancaster and walk down to Wortham than it would have been to drive home and come back again 12 hours later. The hotel is is very good condition considering that it was last remodeled in 1981-83. […] There are a few spots where it is starting to look dated, but for the most part it is in excellent shape. That being said, they are about to embark on a remodel (summer '13) which should make it even better. I hope they keep the mattresses and bedding because the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept on. The food at the Lancaster is very, very good. My wife wanted a snack after the Saturday night show, so we ordered the lemon sorbet. It was absolutely perfect and complemented the chocolates on our pillows wonderfully. We always stay at the Lancaster and have given it 5's across the board until meeting the latest front desk person. We got to the hotel at 1:00, having hung out at HOU airport for 2 hours, and knew we were early. We walked to the front desk, and the receptionist Ryan looked up and said, "I hope you're not wanting to check in." WOW! Welcome to the Lancaster. […] We said, yes, and he said, "Well check in is at 3:00 and we don't have anything available." I said that I understood & we'd just sit in the lobby since we had no car & no place to be. He then said that he had a room available and we could go up. WHAT???? This is a historic hotel in downtown Houston and as such the rooms were a little on the small side, particularly the bathroom. The hotel itself is very nice and well maintained, but you should expect the room size. The on-site restaurant is quite pricey for dinner so I walked elsewhere. The hotel has a great location. The price was very good and the service excellent. The problems with the old fixtures should be fixed by the upcoming renovations. They should have some variety in the breakfast buffet. If a guest stays over more than one day, it is always the same. A boutique hotel in an historic building receives consideration for urban prservation. A complete renovation is planned in the coming months, which will greatly improve the facility. Staff at front desk is gracious, and the bellboys are quite accommodating of persons with disabilities. Restaurant is all right, but the breakfast included with the room […] is skimpy. A major advantage is the location -- a block from the opera house and across the street from the Alley Theatr, and from the symphony hall. Downtown Houston, however, is a dead zone, bereft of shops and restaurants. The town is car oriented. I like this hotel a lot for its location and its staff. Was in Houston on Business. The Lancaster was in a good location in relation to the GBR convention center. Room was VERY clean and well kept. Hotel is not very modern, but I enjoyed the history and carachter of the hotel. WIFI was free which is always a plus on business.

It was recommended that I stay at the Lancaster--now I know why. It is a botique hotel with only about 8 - 10 rooms on a floor (so noise was no problem), quick elevator service, and it's in the middle of the arts area, one block from the downtown office building I was going to and they have a courtesy car serving the downtown area. From the pleasant […] greeting by the valet, to the friendly front desk and a clean and comfortable room, I was pleased. You can tell that this family-run hotel is important to the owners--they have done an extensive amount of research on the building and have two large binders in the main lobby sitting area that tell the interesing story of the building from the mid-20's on. Great concert location within two blocks of the theater district in Houston. We had a "queen size" room, which was rather small, but well appointed. The hotel retains much of its historic charm, although we were told that a remodeling is scheduled.

Rates for parking seemed excessive. Also, non optional per person charge for things like wifi and breakfast. The price was not outrageous but the fact that it is not optional makes the Hotels.com rate inaccurate.

Our room was small and cramped and smelled musty. The windows were quite dirty and the view was of a/c units between our room and another building 8 feet away. Overpriced. The breakfast buffet, which was included in our price (normally $14/ each) consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, 3 cereal choices, 3 fruit choices and a small platter of danishes, […] which vanished in minutes with a long wait for refill. Room was incredibly small. Width was the size of the queen bed and a one foot bedside table on each side. Checking in was very nice and the service was excellent. The morning buffet did not receive the same quality of service, but the food was very good. Room was very clean. In order to use the closet, one must go into the bathroom, close the bathroom […] door, in order to open the closet door. This is a very old hotel and these negatives mentioned were common in the time it was built. So if you are looking for a nice nostalgic hotel in the downtown area, you will enjoy this hotel. This hotel is beautiful and is in a great location to walk from to most of the art events happening in the downtown area. The front staff however could learn a lesson or two about customer care. When I made reservations for myself and 4 friends it included breakfast. Nowhere on my paperwork or in the fine print did it say, only 2 breakfast included […] per room. I had to ask at the desk every morning to fix this. Even the fine print made no mention of only 2 people per room receiving the breakfast plan so that the 3rd person pays. The front desk knew of the problem but nobody tried to resolve it until the very last day. They took away the breakfast charges then hit us with an internet room reservation charge of $19.50 for each room. I have stayed at this hotel seveal times. I am a Houston native and my fiance and I enjoy staying a weekend once in a while there. Great location within walking distance of several attractions downtown. Free shuttle service and outstanding Bistro Restaurant.

The service was excellent from all staff we encountered. The pillows were so comfortable we took them out of the case to find out the brand! Front desk staff were very helpful and accomodating. Our room rate included breakfast and there were many hot and cold choices, and it was fabulous.
