I wasn't expecting much space, so the small room was fine with me. But I soon learned that there was no hot water in the bathroom. The maintenance man told me the building is over 100 years old and that you have to run the water for a bit. So we kept running the water - no change. They changed me to a room that had a door literally opened RIGHT into the elevator, and as I didn't want to be up all night, I asked them to change me again. Finally I got into a room with hot water later that night - exhausted. Pros: location location location. Very good location. After looking at over 100 hotels and the reviews I decided to go with the King George Hotel and I couldn't have made a better decision... From the minute we waked in the front desk was super nice.. This hotel was a rip off. Before booking I called ahead to ask about parking and was told they had free parking which was the main reason we decided to stay there. Then after arriving at the hotel and asking where to park the man at the desk told us we had to pay an absurd amount of money to use the lot across the street. With 2 cars in the lot for […] 2 days we could have easily used that money instead for a much nicer hotel in a safer area that actually did have free parking. The reservation was for a room with 2 double beds but only had 2 twin beds and was very small and cramped even just for 2 people. Almost every surface in the room was covered with a layer of dust. The only good thing about the hotel was that It was relatively close to the area we needed to be in but the area was not safe at all. multiple homeless people came up to us asking for money or to wash our car windows. The windows were old and let in a lot of street noise, the bathroom vanity was worn and REALLY SMALL making mornings harder. This hotel is located a 2minute walk from Union Square, there's a few 24hour diners beside it. The rooms are clean but basic, however the price and location make up for this. One thing I did not like was the fact there was no "Do not Disturb sign" for the door. We have stayed in a remodeled room and thought it was very nice. On our last stay we got a room that had not been remodeled and we very disappointed with it. It was very dated. Great location and the price was right but I would pay more in the future not to stay here again.

King George is three doors down from a busy youth hostel (read: late-night drinking and loud talking on the sidewalk), across the street from a 24-hour garage (read: multiple young folks under the influence, stumbling back to their cars, exchanging loud commentary) and apparently the favorite hang-out of a number of homeless with musical pretentions […] (rubber trash cans make lovely drums, to which you can sing both endlessly and tunelessly). Following several hours of the above entertainment, at 3:40 in the morning, I got to witness a drug deal below my window, at the front door to the hotel. We have to say that the Hotel room was small but cute. The location was within walking distance to a lot of San Francisco landmarks. The service and the staff was great. The only thing we were unhappy about is its very noisy at night in this neighborhood and because there is no a/c in the room we needed the window open for fresh air. We got to the hotel at 1:00a.m after a brutal day of travel (flight delays, etc.). The elevator was broken so we had to hike up 7 flights of stairs with luggage. No compensation of any sort was offered - we still had to pay to park the car 2 blocks from the hotel.

Great place to stay. Solid three-star hotel with everything you need. Low ceilings, small rooms but no problems. Stayed in non-smoking room. Clean and updated. No signs of wear or tear. The room is old fashioned. The bathroom needs better curtains. No air conditioning. The check -in personnel were not friendly. Worse of all, I could not sleep. I could here the loud noises from the people on the road below till midnight. Couple of nights, police sirens woke me up at midnight. the room was clean but very small with low ceilings and no sunlight. the best things about the hotel were: location, common area where they served great coffee, and free internet. it was okay for me for one night, but i couldn't do it for two nights. also there were very loud people in the corridors after midnight.

I've stayed at the King George twice. It's a well run good choice if you are looking for less expensive options in the heart of the Union Square area. It's an older property so the rooms are tiny by today's standards but they are updated and clean. Very small room. Too expensive for what you get. Walls so thin that could hear the people in the next room all night long. They have one elevator and so small that you end up waiting in line multiple times to be able to go up to your room. Would not recommend this.

The rooms were small but very well maintained. The beds and pillows were very hard but everything was very clean. Hotel lobby was very pretty and staff was very friendly. Downside was their are no smoking rooms and you had to smoke in an ally next to the hotel and homeless people will constantly come up to you asking for money and cigarettes.

overall very positive, so these are the few negatives: - it's on the edge of the tenderloin, so dark times feel a tad bit edgy. - i was on the 9th floor, so sometimes getting/taking the elevator was sloooooow, and i'd hesitate to go down for coffee or a cigarette because of the slow lift. the stairs were beautiful antique spiral-in-a-square with a rail […] on only 1 side. very scary & not an option for my hand brace. - the desk guy told me the bldg was one of the few that survived the '06 quake, but the binder says it was built in 1914. biiiig diff. - lucky to have parking, but it was across the street. - loved the organic toiletries & large closet & windows that opened & ceiling fan. - hated that there was no smoking in the entire, altho other nearby hotels do allow it.
