Overall, pleased! I took my 2 nephews and their 2 friends on a trip--4 kids total--and we had a great time at the hotel! Room was clean and comfy, staff was pleasant and accommodated every request (extra pillows, blankets, towels, etc). Pool was clean and nice looking, kids had a blast. Drawbacks: hotel does not have breakfast available during the week (sat/sun buffet $7 per person, but only open if hotel is full). "Good value for the money"
This is an older property that could use some updating, but that will likely have to wait until general economic conditions make it practical. For the time being, though, that has kept room rates low making this an excellent value in downtown South Bend. It might not impress a client but it will make your CFO smile.
"Froze all night because heater didn't work."
This hotel is in desperate need of an update. Not only from a design point of view but the heating and cooling system is a joke. Otherwise the staff were extremely courteous and did what they could but the best staff in the world can't make up for a room that's so cold that you have to sleep in a sleeping bag.

Very nice and clean hotel. Indoor parking very nice especially if bad weather is happening. Good views of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's.

"A grand bargain"
The Magnuson Grand Hotel used to be a Holiday Inn, but it went bankrupt and is currently in receivership (per front desk staff). The trash can in our room said "Holiday Inn". The property is clean, but a bit shopworn. The staff is quite friendly. Our rate was a bargain, but that might have been because we arrived during spring break.

"magnusson hotel in south bend"
Great downtown location and view. Toilet had overflowed and carpet was wet outside bathroom. Toilet kept running and figured out why carpet was wet when toilet overflowed on us. Kinda gross and housekeeping should have noticed. Otherwise room and service was perfect.

Very satisfied with the hotel accommodations and the price as well. Nice large room and very clean. We enjoyed the view from the 16th floor..could see the Notre Dame Dome and Basilica steeple.

I spent 2 nights during a business trip and I must say that when I am in town again, there will be no doubt that I will staying again. The staff was great, the location was within walking distance of everything. Great stay... Highly recommended...

"Magnuson Grand, South Bend"
Clean, convenient for my purposes that weekend. The neighborhood is sort of boring over the weekend - I suppose it is more interesting during business week (although, the College Football Hall of Fame is about 3 blocks away - that's cool). Parking is EASY, Indoors and FREE - I appreciated that in February!

had show tickets at the morris center 2 blks away. it was decent and convienent for a 1 night stay in downtown south bend,IN. 1 single ice machine working on the 16th flr. (we stayed on the 9th flr) parking garage levels on the 4th and 5th flrs...room was ok, couldn't understand the counter space just outside of the bathroom. had the coffee pot set […] up but no outlet to plug it in? wth? no mirror either...place needs upgrades but still not as bad as some reviews would have you believe...all in all, i'd probably stay here again if i had something to do in south bend, i've seen better. but then again, i've seen worse! Magnuson Grand Hotel South Bend was very nice. It was within walking distance to the South Bend Regional Art Museum, several good restaurants and other South Bend sites.

Had to jiggle toilet handle to stop running. Ran out of hot water at end of shower. But great view from sixteenth floor. Fast elevator. Great downtown location. Try the Oyster Bar around the corner. Easy parking in ramp.

WELL, LETS START WITH CHECK IN, THE GENTLEMAN BEHIND THE DESK WAS AN ABSOLUTE DOLL, LOVED HIM AND HE WORKED NEW YEAR'S EVE NIGHT WHICH IS A ROUGH ONE TO WORK, HE DID EVERYTHING WE ASKED OF HIM.....AS FAR AS THE HOTEL WAS CONCERNED, IT WAS CRAPPY!!!! THERE WAS NO MICROWAVE OR FRIDGE IN THE ROOM, THE ONLY ITEMS THAT WERE OFFERED WERE POP AND SNACKS, THEY […] WERE ONLY ON THE 14,15 &`6TH FLOORS, WHICH WE FOUND SOMETHING TO DRINK, BUT THERE WAS NO ICE TO BE FOUND IN A 20 STORY BUILDING ON NEW YEAR'S EVE AND THE HOTEL HAS NO ICE BECAUSE THE ICE MACHINES DO NOT PRODUCE ICE AT ALL?????!!!!???? ON TOP OF THAT WE HAD TO PARK ON THE 4TH LEVEL, GO IN THE HOTEL TO THE 1ST FLOOR, THEN OUR ROOM WAS ON THE 13TH FLOOR WHICH I DON'T LIKE, MOST HOTELS AND BUSINESSES DO NOT HAVE A 13TH FLOOR, THAT WAS A LITTLE DISHEARTENING!!!!!!! "Steaming hot room"
The temperature controls didn't work in our room, and we basically sweated away the night. It is conveniently located in downtown, and not far from Notre Dame. However, the lack of a working temperature control made our stay absolutely miserable.

Although located downtown it is a very short drive to Notre Dame. Some good eating places within a few mins walk (Trios was very good!) Hotel is basic, clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Only problem was room a/c - warm and stuffy. Air is circulated from boiler room and not individually controlled!
"Ramada Plaza Hotel - South Bend"
Went to Notre Dame game and wanted to stay nearby. Hotel is dated but kept clean, breakfast buffet was great, staff was very friendly. We have no complaints.

Although the staff was quite friendly, at the time I stayed (early October), there was a heat wave. During the day it was around 80. The room air conditioning did not work well. The temp of the room never got below 70, despite turning the thermostat as low as it would go. The solution of the staff was to provide a fan. "Ramanda Downtown South Bend-close to Morris Center"
Got a hotel close to MPAC. In town for a show and tattoos and the location was within walking distance to the show. Good, clean, quiet.
"Ramada Plaza Hotel"
The room was nice and clean. The hotel was nice and quiet. The ice machines on every floor were either empty, broken, or missing. That was annoying.

I usually stay at other hotels but they were booked and this one was suggested by Hotels.com. The old Holiday Inn is now the Ramada and while the staff was nice enough - they were not very efficient with getting me to the room. The parking at the hotel was tight...the elevators were slow. The room - while somewhat clean, was old and drab...there was […] little hotel information in the room (ie: the hours of the restaurant etc) or info on the surrounding area...the ice machines on 3 floors were not working...there was no inroom internet access. The hotel was horrible, They had no hot water, call front desk, then came to fixed the water. When they were done is was luke warm. Not good. The beds were all most on the floor.

"Convenient and Clean for the Price for ND football"
Perfect location to get to campus (via the convenient hotel shuttle) and then go out to the downtown bars after the game. It was clean and though one of the elevators was down, there really wasn't much else wrong with this hotel. Certainly it's dated, but you can't be picky when heading to South Bend on a football weekend.

Not sure whether this was really the Ramada or The Holiday Inn as the hotel says both on the outside and items inside the hotel say HI. An older hotel which could certainly use some updating but a convenient downtown location.
"Needs just a few repairs to make it better"
Reception staff very nice and efficient. Bathroom needs help - sink filled up with just a basic handwash and then took forever to drain. Bathtub had a leak and black areas around faucet handle which was not completely attached. TV was at furthest end of long room away from bed - made watching difficult and needed to be pretty loud.
